Good question; you see, this humble list is focused on Maths as the main goal, putting Physics a bit aside. You can check that lots of physical specialties weren't included (Atmospheric Physics, Astrophysics, Biophysics, and so on); I decided to include only those ones where the student could apply himself or perceive the subjects better as saying. Plus, another goal is the real, deep understanding, rather than a rigorous approach as to work in any serious related job.

Each calculus takes a semester and there is Calc1, 2 and 3; in addition, the goal here is the deep understanding, rather than fitting in any official calendar.

Nevertheless, one could put Apostol in 1st year if able; this is just a possible, adaptable plan.

>>16673627

I find that this list covers pretty well the basics, which was the main goal it was originally conceived from. Researchs need at least another official year to reach the main specialties, and this is the ultimate reason why no 4th stage was included.

your list doesn't cover anything in depth, it's basically just a bunch of redundant introductory books for the most part and the logic and proof books are entirely unnecessary/a waste of time. For mathematical physics, you'll want to follow something like https://theportal.wiki/wiki/Read

Listfag here. True, I can understand your point; Geometry and Discrete Mathematics weren't included at the first year. Similarly, Finantial Maths or Mathematic models weren't at the 2nd year, and so on.

With the.possible exception of Geometry -with which I'd recommend Coxeter's and Berger's books- and Discrete M. -pic rel-, I don't think one should go much further than what these precious books provide, even in terms of introduction -which they definitely do brilliantly in about 400/500 pages as average per volume-.

Then again, it's really up to everybody. Personally I don't think anything here is redundant or useless as other commenter said some posts before; I simple beared in mind that science shines the most when can be shared and explained in plain terms; or, when its foundational basis can be clearly shown at least. That's the spirit before, basically.

Because it covers many topics not contained in either of the 2 books you've mentioned. Especially the stuff on tensors is important for physics.

>I don't think one should go much further
And what makes you think that? Have you done any geometry in modern math or physics? This is insanely malicious advice to anyone who wants to understand these fields. I'm at least humble enough to admit I only really learned projective geometry once I started doing algebraic geometry.
>science shines the most when can be shared and explained in plain terms
That's just a soundbite. Every serious mathematician knows the invention of new terms is inevitable and standard. You learn math by doing it, not by solely reading people pontificate over its meaning and reading extremely elementary texts.
>its foundational basis can be clearly shown
Your books don't do any of that. You just postpone any real math to the very end and even then you hardly scratch the surface. You clearly also don't even understand the math yourself or else you would've chosen books that better complement the math in your physics books.

Foundational physics - take your pick. Many regard University Physics by Young and Freedman (most recently) as the standard, others favor Physics for Scientists and Engineers by Serway and Jewett, some prefer older texts like Physics by Halliday, Resnick, and Krane.

For more advanced material (but not graduate level material)
Mechanics - Taylor
Electrodynamics - Griffiths
Quantum Physics - Griffiths or Zettili, maybe Townsend
Thermodynamics - Schroeder, I'm not personally a fan, but I'll admit that it's probably the most comprehensive of the undergraduate texts on the subject that's still readable
Astrophysics - Carroll and Ostlie (BOB)
Plasma Physics - Chen
Circuits - Horowitz and Hill

Graduate level material is complicated because there's very few texts that people will agree on

Listfag here again; my sides, but true still.

I agree with you that Callen's Thermodynamycs (more rigurous) can be changed for Schroeder (more friendly and focused on applications), and the same could be said between Landau-Lifshitz (rigor) and Taylor (great too); plus, Griffiths truly seems slightly better than Reitz (no offense anyone).

It's less that people don't agree on graduate texts, and more that people have love/hate relationships with most of them: Jackson is great, but he's a bastard when it comes to cutting out nontrivial and nonobvious parts of an explanation or derivation; Goldstein is solid, but many of his examples are indecipherable; etc.

This. Rudin's PMA is like the absolute minimum, and you should already know some applied mathematics to appreciate it, you will not realize what all of analysis is good for just by reading Rudin, it's not an essay it's a mathematics textbook.

If we're talking about RCA, up to chapter 10 it's all pretty standard knowledge too, but again you will not get the point only from Rudin's book.

It's awesome that a books like Rudin's exists, because you can go straight for what you want to. Other textbooks want to expand and spread out the actual results the title of the book is supposed to expose.

People who dislike Rudin usually don't know what they want to learn and treat "mathematical analysis" as a catch all for anything related, so they expect a book to do everything.

libgen or the bookstore - many colleges are switching to a new textbook scheme where all students are charged a flat annual rate and textbooks are just purchased for them based on their registration. Iโ€™ve seen the numbers on some of the schools that have adopted it and the average cost per student over a degree ends up being about the same, but itโ€™s much simpler for the students since theyโ€™re not having to parse through multiple suppliers or versions, they just show up to the bookstore, swipe their student ID and get a package with all their textbooks for the semester.

If you're going to use technology to combat technology, in the end you'll be the antagonist with the technology. It's impossible to "combat" technological progress anyway, as long as capitalism exists, and let's not forget that Kaczynsky was a retarded schizo murderer. Suggesting his ramblings for scientific inclined people is stupid. Even if there will be a mass extinction event, wiping out half the population of earth and somehow destroying all the technological progress since the industrial revolution, as long as, for example, Github Arctic Vault, or Svalbard Global Seed Vault, or Arctic World Archive, exists, the humanity will recreate the AI and smartphones and the Internet soon enough. There is nothing to "combat", it's either an infantile or moronic thought.

Capitalism isn't synonymous with technological progress. Many things have been purchased to never see the light of day again to maintain the status quo. One could argue that the capitalist influences governments through lobbying and other means, and is also generating red tape around superior technologies. Let me put it in terms you can understand:
An inferior intelligence, such as yourself, stamps out progress through censoring the superior intelligentsia, me. Reddit is a publicly traded company, and is therefor capitalist in nature. Technological progress is literally being shunted for ONIONS.

Listfag here again. Lots of univ use Stewart in Cal I -and even II in some cases-. As I wrote before, the list is merely orientative, nothing strict.

The fancy-schmancy books not only serve as introduction, but to improve the whole experience through a friendly approach, not only based on collections of problems where formulas are applied to be solved.

Im a poorfag working his whole life without a lot of time for books.
If I read "The Prince" and understood it perfectly, will I understand everything else here?
Will it improve my life in any way?
