Thinking of pursuing a BSc in Nuclear Engineering at OTU, the only program of it's kind in Canada.

However, from what I've read and heard Nuclear Engineering is LITERALLY EXACTLY THE SAME as mech with like 3 courses in actual nuclear-related topics, which checks out (I looked at their syllabus). Not to mention I heard the majority of people working in nuclear are mech and EE anyway, and nuclear physics is far better if you want to get into proper nuclear power plants.

Is Nuclear just mech bros? Am I going to get cucked doing this degree?

I thought Nuclear stuff was closer to CE than ME.

Most nuclear power plants are 40+ years old and reaching end of life. Companies are hesitant to build new ones and the US/Canadian governments are unlikely to easily give new plant approval.

Basically don't do nuclear. You will end up applying for traditional mechanical engineering jobs, but with the handicap of having "nuclear engineering" on your diploma and not mech. Besides yes, nuclear engineering is a subset of mechanical, and at my school it was just a specialization of the mechanical engineering degree.

OP, almost every university has had their course catalog, including which classes are required to graduate with a particular major, online for decades. If you can't do a simple comparison, please don't go into nuclear anything. We don't need someone with so little attention to detail.

at schools with a proper nuclear engineering program it seems like it has a lot more emphasis on chemistry and physics which some employers might like

Real nuclear engineering is a lot of matsci and radiation transporting through solids and shit, so if its "a subset of mechanical engineering" they are probably just prepping people to be radioactive boiler monkeys.

That school is a diploma mill. Don't go there. Just do EE at Waterloo or UofT.
