or this simulation way off?
Topology experts - please also list data that does or does not support this simulation.

now think about how a dam breaking would affect areas upstream
then look at that "simulation" again

You don't need to be an expert in either of those fields to recognize propaganda. The dam failing would be a terrible event. The loss of life would be insignificant to China overall but the loss of productive capability would be devastating. Once recover happened, most of humanity would demand the death of those responsible for it happening and the complete elimination of whatever government ordered it. People still complain about the tens of thousands killed by that atomic bombs at the end of WWII. Intentionally blowing up the Three Gorges Dam would kill millions, almost all of whom would be civilians. China could recover from this but whoever did it would not. It's the level of mass casualty event that would easily justify the use of nuclear weapons.

It would actually be much worse. The Three Gorges Reservoir contains enough water to flood the entire surface of the earth five times over.

Absolutely not, it wouldn't even be visible on a map. The reservoir is like 40 cubic kilometers of water. That's nothing on a geographic scale.

>easily justify the use of nuclear weapons
Nuclear weapons require no justification, the consequences are what stops countries from using them.
