in terms of terrestrial vertebrates the ancestors of the groups of mammals, birds and crocodiles, turtles, lizards and snakes, and amphibians had split by the late permian to early triassic while the ancestor of the crown group of each hadn't yet evolved.

This means that around 250 million years ago of all the species of terrestrial vertebrates around only 5 to 6 of them would go on to have modern descendants.

Now imagine choosing 5 or 6 living species of terrestrial vertebrates to have descendants in 250 million years.

Straight up fear mongering! Just ponder how many percent of new species replaced them.
As individuals are getting smaller since the dinosaurs, possibly allowing for more diversity, there's no thing as extinction but rather regeneration.
Looking at an ecosystem simulation (like 'foxes and rabbits') it's easy to conclude there's no reason to worry about a final extinction from human activity. Even after a nuclear war, radiation-hardy lifeforms would just make the new foundation for further evolution.
