Do you think it would be better to focus on channelling energy from lightning strikes than from fusion reactors?

Badly. The voltage and current of a lightning strike can vary wildly and it's so rare it couldn't possibly justify the expensive reactor necessary to transform that kind of momentary spike into a form you can store.
Could it be done? I guess.
Should it be done? Fuck no.
Pipe that energy into the ground where it might have a chance of not killing anyone.
