The last thing we need is more empathy. We have too much of it already. People need to reason, not emote.
And the problem with low IQ isn't a chemical imbalance or a processing speed issue; it's a structural failing of inferior genetics. No pill will ever cure that.

High IQ + high empathy is the best combo. And I disagree on the too much empathy thing. When was the last time you spoke to a low IQ person? They can't comprehend other people having feelings at all, and they are genuinely unable of understanding how their actions affect other people.

Which makes it an IQ issue, not an emotions issue.
Emotions let people, manipulate you. Emotions are how criminal lawyers manipulate a jury into letting the criminal off for murder because someone was rude to him once or called him a mean word. Boo-hoo.
But you might be right about gene editing being an option for the low-IQ thing, at least if we catch it while they're young.

No offense, but you sound 15. That's a very one-sided view of emotions, and you completely disregard how important empathy is for cooperation and successful communication. In fact, I'd go as far as to say empathy is the thing that allowed us to evolve and build society without constantly backstabbing each other - although it can be used to put yourself in your enemy's shoes as well. The ability to project and imagine feelings is very powerful.

The issue with low IQs is that their neuronal pathways are literally tangled up (google it). It seems eminently possible to apply some substance that shuts off a random collection of dead-ends or links, leading to MORE of a lattice structure as high IQs have. It seems like it could rend 5 IQ points more.

Didn't notice this one. Again, could you explain? Some of the smartest people I've met were also the kindest, so it seems to me strong pattern recognition (which is essentially what IQ boils down to) is very much compatible with empathy. They do not have to go together, mind you, but they can.
