Why not download an AI APP?
ChatGPT has some free interactions, but PERPLEXITY AI is pretty decent as is DEEPSEEK AI.

THE KEY IS "TELL ME HOW TO DO..." MATH THING by explaining it to me as you would a 5 year old child. Ask it to create examples. Ask it to create simple tests. Ask it if there's any secret tricks like faster easier multiplication.

You have access to essentially a FREE PERFECTLY PATIENT TEACHER A.I. use it for all you can to gain all you can.

If there's extra money to use, ask the AI if there's food or medications to boost memory recall and cognitive fluidity. Then you can get your friend on a diet that'll help them achieve goals easier.

You can't learn math by watching youtube videos. I'm not trying to be a dick or a snob or anything.
Imo, just use kids' books. Like start with AOPS Prealgebra or something similar.

My favorite choice for teaching algebra is "the mystery box" game.

This is a MYSTERY BOX Inside it is a number.
Let's label the box as M.
5 times M equals 25. What number is inside the box?

Good you guessed it. Now I'm changing the number inside the box.

6 times M plus 3 equals 45.
Guess what number is in the mystery box now?

Great! You're doing wonderfully.

And if you can provide examples they can visualize mentally, they will attach weight and importance to the task. Otherwise, you can reward with an M&M candy (singular). That adds a "be smarter earn calories" reward for the body that undervalues intelligence (works for pigeons, chickens, rats, and monkeys).

Oh, and I actually wanted to respond to this.

You can learn anything from any source. The main thing is engagement, which videos tend to become a passive experience for most people.
Channels like Mind Your Decisions are good because they offer challenge problems you are supposed to try to solve yourself.
Problem with that channel is it's not always clear what math level you're supposed to be at for a particular problem.

I learned a lot by simply playing with a graphing calculator, though. Plug in generic forms of functions into Desmos with coefficients as sliders and observe how the function changes and what happens when you add functions together.

You won't have any retention if you don't consistently practice it. You'll be like a woman who had sex with a doctor who thinks this makes her a doctor by vaginal osmosis

No shit. This is like saying you can't learn math by reading books either. Ofc you have to practice a skill to properly learn and retain it. But watching cooking shows can teach you to cook in exactly the same sense that watching math videos can teach you math. They introduce you to concepts you might be otherwise unfamiliar with so that you can practice them.
