Consider supplementing your literary study with online problem solving sites like HackerRank and LeetCode. I have learned a lot about data structures and algorithms solving those problems.

Look at the hardest algorithm problems on that site used by top employers in commercial software development. These are rarely ever applied in such contexts. The most skilled programmers are researchers and scientists.
