In the engineering sector it's completely normal that you're working on hard physics and math problems in the morning with someone and during lunch the guy that is educated and just showdshowed you that they perfectly understand physics and all will suddenly go on a half hour rant about 'the bell' some nazi aircraft that defies gravity, air resistance and everything else because someone spins a water vortex the right way round or something. And you'll be left wondering why the guy that just approximated some E- and H-fields around antennas with you... like get outta here.
Then again IQ and academics but more so IQ and field are correlated, on average. We know that. But: Are you sure that IQ and not falling for obvious scams are correlated? Isn't that at least as much a question of experience, naivity, trust and such? I bet an 70 IQ hoodlum will have seen more scams and deceit go down to be less naive in many situations than einstein would be.
