if the friction of various particles mixing in the air of a storm is what generates lightning then why haven't we used the same phenomenon to generate some kind of electricity? i have no idea how electricity works but why haven't we tried this?

1. you have to feed energy into the system to agitate the particles, and itโ€™s a safe bet that you get less energy out
2. even natural lighting is hard to harvest energy from, the fact is it isnโ€™t that much energy compared to what gets used by 8 billion mostly retarded hominids

no i'm saying why don't we just put stuff up into the air and use the friction of air particles to generate the electricity... isn't something similar used by hand cranked devices? the agitated particles already exist we don't have to create them ourselves. just float balloons with batteries and friction pads into storm clouds or something and then retrieve the balloons with charged batteries.

But we have, we use steam to generate electricity in 99% of cases.

A better and more focused question might be: how *can* we harness lighting or the atmospheric phenomena that create lightning, to for example charge a battery? Im 70 year old, and any anons of my vintage will remember an ad in the back of the comic books to make your own storm powered generator: Well long story short; it didnโ€™t use lightning like Young Frankenstein. It used a smal drop in air pressure to light an incandescent bulb very dimly so you could see it a bit as the storm drew in and a bit as the storm blew away. Anyway I dont meen to pooh pooh storm power generation just my $0.02 he he he

The amount of energy constantly moving within Earth's atmosphere dwarfs what humans could process in any human-scaled facility.
