i think the reason is that dumb people have easy access to sex and are more interested in physical activities

truth nuke: it takes an incredible amount of discipline and skill to be and remain beautiful for many years. It's way harder than what some 'smart' people are doing.
For men it is of course 5 times harder to be beautiful but for women it is very hard to remain beautiful after 30.

Fact is that most people are ugly, and most people are dumb. Therefore, it is especially difficult to find smart, attractive people, and most attractive people will not be smart. Also, the US is not a good sample, because they actively try to make their citizens as stupid as possible.
Nevertheless, there is a positive correlation between intelligence and attractiveness.
