Why don’t nurses try to look for the right vein in dimness? - /sci/ (#16715364) [Archived: 496 hours ago]

This may seem crazy, but think of it for a sec. When you point a light directly on the surface of your skin in a low-light environment, it is actually way easier to find veins, especially when you are trying to search for the right one. Try it yourself, it works even with your phone flashlight. As a matter of fact, why don’t nurses spot-light the flesh first in the obscurity, then insert the syringe or any other tool with a needle tip needed?

Yeah, sure, but haven’t any higher-ups in the medical hierarchy, or even people that have general knowledge about medical procedures, at least considered this once in their entire life?

I work for a board that regulates certifying and licensure of nurses.
Most nurses are the lowest common denominator, and they would be basically skilled servants attending doctors for room and board (and maybe a few dollars a week for spending money) in a just world.

Their superiors understand that they are stupid. Their superiors also don't care: they get paid the same whether you have a five star experience or a zero star.
