I love numerical and/or computational stuff, want to earn decent money and probably planning to do phd
Which field do you guys recommend? PDEs and numerical analysis looks cool, would I regret it if I dedicated myself to numerical analysis? I want to work in big finance/tech companies as an industry researcher mainly, do not give shit about academics

I dont like biology/chemistry though, would not mind physics but nah
I also want to be adaptable so I may work in multiple industries with that field, biology is not that

Pure numerical analysis is kinda dead, but in the context of PDEs it is very alive. I would suggest to learn some probability and statistics if you want to work in finance or tech. Some basic ML knowledge never hurts and you can pivot into that more if you desire.

I read you're just done with first year now. Don't dedicate yourself to anything. Take courses and find out what interests you.

you need to pair that math+cs up with an application
so take finance or physics classes, because those are fields that use numerics and concern themselves with modeling things
personally, i love computational electromagnetism
