Women have dropped a nuclear bomb in the arms race with the exclusive usage and gatekeeping of makeup, textile patterns/shapes/colors, hair patterns even.
Even things such as package containers like a purse and bags are controlled, dictated and determined by women.

And in poorer societies the requirements for male attractiveness to easily find a partner are far lower because immediate survival is the main concern. See the dull brown and grey coloured animals in the harsh tundra as opposed to the rainbow of colours in the prosperous tropics.

Proto-society had females in higher positions of power since for the tribe to survive they needed to cater to a mother goddess and birth new people for the tribe, the women would also have sex with everyone to make sure that everyone cared about the clans kids instead of just their own.

Just as important for males, argueably even more so. Women can get away with no haircut at all, just about any man will find plain long hair atrractive. Then there's the hard truth that appearance is simply more important to men that it is to women for evolutionary reasons. Men are the natural providers, while women lose their fertility faster. As such women are mostly concerned with general capability in men, while men plainly just want a pretty woman. You can be a nasty fat fuck, you will still find a gold digger to fuck you. Women on the other hand have to be somewhat attractive, men marrying ugly sugarmommies are few and far between.
