So if I casually quit my life right now, what happens to my consciousness, scientifically speaking? Does it become a permanent 'black screen' or is this simply transformed in some way? If it is transformed, where would *I* (my conscitousness) end up?

Well "the truth" is we have no idea what consciousness even is and it cannot be measured independently of itself so we likely will never know.
The flame analogy works because consciousness at least appears to be an emergent phenomenon like fire is. If you take away one of the necessary components to maintain a flame, the flame doesn't "go" anywhere. It simply ceases to exist.

If these sorts of existential problems bother you, just try to live your life without regrets. Any regrets you have weighing down on you I would recommend seeking whatever path you can to put them behind you. Religious institutions have various ways of doing exactly this sort of thing so it's imperative that you spend as much time researching them as is proportionate to whatever it is that's bothering you until you are more confident than you are bothered.

As I understand it science is about the 'how' of things not necessarily the 'why', which it cannot adequately answer. But I appreciate you tried to alleviate me of these things concerning our material existences despite it not being exactly your expertise. I still don't think adopting a religion would solve this issue of mine however so I think I will doomed to overthink about it till the end of my days.

Who knows who cares. Doesn’t matter. Why worry about something you can’t do anything about?

All these what if questions are dumb. Focus on the scope of what’s going on right now.

You are alive right now. You could be worried about so many things. Instead you’re worried about something you have no control over and you know damn well no one can give you an answer.

>consciousness at least appears to be an emergent phenomenon
it is for sure. if you feel a picture then it's not 1 elementary particle causing it but many at different places together. So what correlates with it? It must be a change of some kind because dead things don't make consciousness. Change of what? The possibilities I see:
1) movement of action potentials, so a moving wave of an electric field
2) a chemical reaction inside the neuron triggered by action potentials, so a change of molecular or energy state. Maybe a specific reaction of the same type that occurs in all active neurons. Maybe the density of it represent different feelings, or the spacial or temporal pattern. Maybe different types of reactions encode different feelings. This still would not explain why this same activity in different brains are not part of your consciousness.
Are there other possibilities?
I think those questions are testable and answerable but I don't see any research being done in that regard at all for some reason.

Consciousness = process of stimuli.
If you're no longer processing stimuli then your consciousness no longer exists.

The thing that makes it untestable is the fact that you can't measure consciousness in anyone but yourself. You can only measure behavior and infer.

That bit of pedantry aside, we can manipulate consciousness to the extent that subjective experience no longer matches objective phenomena. It's called drugs. We can even temporarily suspend consciouness with anesthesia.
What's more is we can make slight alterations to it with electrodes. These experiments have been done and you're experimenting on yourself every time you drink a cup of coffee.

Energy can be created and destroyed.

You, the true you that experiences reality, hidden behind the data reported by the perceptual flesh of the brain, summoned forth from the very concept of energy itself, God, and placed in control of the atomic structures gifted to you by your mother and father, are a waveform.

The most alien thing about atheists and nihilists is that they cannot comprehend this simple and obviously innate and inherent truth: that this waveform, if summoned once, can be summoned again. Can be summoned again and again, if reality desires, until you are determined to be boring or undesirable in some unforgivable way.

Deep contemplation of the miracle of birth, of being allowed to be born at all, should tell you all you need to know, long before the greatest engineers of our civilization fabricate the required equipment to scientically prove with empirical repeatability what the truly faithfully religious understand instinctually.

If your willpower and scientific mastery of reality are insufficient to control the movement of your soul when detached from your flesh vessel, death will result in the divine spark vibrating through your brain flesh being zapped into a timeless dimension where you are paused until reality decides what next to do with you, a complicated filtration process. Some are seen as children/tourists and guided back to reincarnation, some are teachers/soldiers with tasks still yet incomplete bound to messianic servitude, malevolents are reviewed for their purposeless evils and combated accordingly.

Killing yourself is generally considered malevolent without extremely obvious justifications, so be wary.

In your defense, molestation/corruption of children is one of the worst crimes that can be commited, so it is understandable that so many of you would elect to quit living, given how the retards have elected leaders that have been confirmed as child rapists.

But you're really just weak bitches unwilling to help fix a world, yea?

The nice thing about humans is that they can communicate. They can tell you exactly what/how they feel. It enables experimentation on a broader scale.
I think it is perfectly possible to rule out possibilities with experiments and get to the root of consciousness. One can create a soul in the lab. We can already create souls reproducibly and arbitrarily so we are basically the gods of those completely new souls we created. We can grow brains and we can experiment with them to identify exactly what causes qualia and how but nobody is doing it or sharing results.

you cant, nature is savage. This is why PETA are such hack frauds. In the wild animals have incredibly short life spans. They constantly die from disease, exposure and being savagely eaten alive. Cats and dogs in the wild are always on the verge of death when they are "rescued" by people in DoDo videos and such.

In captivity, being bred for human consumption, they are truly living like kings with a much longer life span than they would have had in the wild, until their eventual slaughter,

Your psychophysical self? Gone with the wind

The actual transcendent self it's originally derived from? It fucks off back to its divine Source
