im an engineering undergrad, was gonna be a finance bro but my parents told me to do engineering bc finance was a copout. desu i went along thinking i would just switch to finance once i started failing but so far ive been acing everything.
im not too far yet, but i aced calc 2 and 3 and found them to be easy but i know this still doesnt even begin to take me out of midwit territory, especially since for calc 3 i dont really deeply understand it all i just was prepared enough for the tests to perform.

i hope to get a finance minor somehow but am undecided on whether i should go to electrical or stay in mechanical. i care less ab salary since im well off, i care more ab being able to get jobs and also just not being mediocre.
when i started college i thought engineering would be a meatgrinder but now that im almost halfway through or halfway through the prospect of this being a major i can skate through easily off of just doing the bare minimum and learning everything for a test in an allnighter or two has become way more believable, which on one hand is comforting but on the other i dont want to settle for mediocrity because of it
idc whether or not you think im a midwit, just give me advice anyways on what i should do

If you want to do finance, you don't need a finance degree. Financial concepts are easy, the quantitative stuff is not as easy and better taught in STEM. Only do a finance degree if you want to be an investment banking or consulting bro, then you don't need the quantitative stuff as much but you need to network a lot and be able to present yourself as a charismatic bro and not a shut in nerd.
In terms of electrical vs mechanical, electrical is more suited to finance due to signal processing and more statistics and optimization.

so electrical puts me in a better position to monkey branch to finance? lets say i never find an opportunity to do that though, which one will be more or less likely to have me pigeonholed into a job that is mediocre high paying and comfy or not? so far i aced calc 2 and calc 3 skipping most classes and basically learning everything on allnighters the night before exams, does this bode well and likely mean i have the mental capacity to do well in either electrical or mechanical, or does it bode badly and make me a retard who skated through things with rote memorization, or a little bit of both but can be offset by just not being a procrastinating retard.
as for the IB or consulting bro, i dont think ill be able to network and present mself that well alongside also doing engineering, mechanical or electrical especially if im doing some research role or internships too. thank you so much for the advice given so far by the way

and also how bad of a choice is electrical if i hate programming or does that barely make an impact
can i easily make it work while ignoring programming?

>so electrical puts me in a better position to monkey branch to finance?
Yes.
>which one will be more or less likely to have me pigeonholed into a job that is mediocre high paying and comfy or not?
I don't know enough about engineering and your country's job market to answer that.

>or a little bit of both but can be offset by just not being a procrastinating retard.
This. But don't underestimate how hard it is to not be a procrastrinating retard.

Bad. Programming can be an acquired taste though. I thought I hated it until I needed it to apply it to problems that were interesting to me.

i dont live in brazil lol i just randomly chose that im american

also could you tell me more about programming and electrical, is it somethign i need to be proficient in already or will my use and application of it not be heavy and will be sparse and mild enough that i can learn what i need to do when it comes up? my hatred for programming comes from aversion to compsci which is oversaturated with jeets and me taking an intro to c++ class under a jeet teacher who raped us with tests and made us write programs on paper, would you say my views on it are too skewed by flukes on programming? i really appreciate the replies

My point stands, no clue what engineering job market is like in USA.

> i can learn what i need to do when it comes up?
It always helps to be proficient, but mostly this. If an electrical engineering program wants people proficient in some language, they will either mention it as a prerequisite or it will be in the curriculum. You can always email someone from the program from the university you want to attend to make sure.
