Research demonstrates that religion can have modest but meaningful effects on well-being, particularly in its emotional (affective) and cognitive dimensions. However, socioeconomic factors - especially financial satisfaction, income, and health—remain the dominant predictors. Religious identities like Protestantism and Buddhism are associated with higher happiness, while Catholicism and Hinduism were linked more with life satisfaction. The nonreligious perform well emotionally, challenging the assumption that religion is necessary for well-being.
