>>16731640 (OP)The perfect world you want, where science funding is for science sake, cannot exist because there is no incentive for companies to pay for pure science because there's no quarterly profit returns. Pure science can only be funded by the state because the state doesn't need instant return on investment. But you don't want the state to fund research because you view it as corrupt bureaucrats and politicians pulling the levers with conspiracy theories real or imagined as evidence they can't be trusted.
Which leaves you with no one, therefore you come to anonymous image boards and complain why pure science isn't being done like in days past and worship the old guard who got famous, for the most part, for gathering the low hanging fruit. The science that could be done with a grand idea and wooden planks and nails. Gone are those days when a single scientist could make a discovery on their own. Now all that's left is the slog through difficult work with pure science costing in the hundreds of millions created by teams of scientists at research institutes, which you despise.
But go ahead and continue to argue about why "accountants" are crammed into research positions. Go ahead and try funding your own laser inferometer in your backyard to search the universe for gravity waves, or your own neutrino detector in your basement. Go ahead. Prove how dumb you are.
