it is not in the interest of an actual journalist to publish nonsense because that shreds their credibility
of course, lies and misinformation gets half way around the world before the truth gets its pants on, and there is massive incentive for "journalists" to publish clickbait to drive eyeballs to the ads that sit next to their "stories"
and, of course, the general public has shown both a complete disdain for paying for quality journalism and a complete lack of ability to differentiate truth from falsehood, so here we are, with people getting their "news" from social media and being overall fucking idiots.
