What will the first really big AI controversy be? I think soon there's going to be a very important photo or video thats going to be world wide news and that photo/video is going to be exposed as AI and its going to cause people socially to question the validity of everything.

Normal people don't know that kind of stuff and im like 100% sure a lot of television/internet commercials (ads) are made with AI. Im just curious when a news organization will be bold enough to pass off a completely fake photo as real. Its going to happen

I think lack of institutional trust will actually reduce the impact of any AI photo/video fakes causing a problem. Even if a major media outlet or government organization gets tricked by AI media, large numbers of people simply won't care since they don't listen or believe those outlets on anything.
And since so many people distrust them and want to make those organizations look bad, they will be the ready to call the AI media fake & gay at the first whiff of it being fake.

half of the point of quality journalism is putting your name on the line over and over again in relation to the stories you publish to build trust
it is not in the interest of an actual journalist to publish nonsense because that shreds their credibility
of course, lies and misinformation gets half way around the world before the truth gets its pants on, and there is massive incentive for "journalists" to publish clickbait to drive eyeballs to the ads that sit next to their "stories"
and, of course, the general public has shown both a complete disdain for paying for quality journalism and a complete lack of ability to differentiate truth from falsehood, so here we are, with people getting their "news" from social media and being overall fucking idiots.
the post-truth society fostered by the internet highlights humanity's achilles heel

An accurate assessment.
What we are seeing is the accelerated polarization of information. Just lagging some decades behind the polarization of wealth.
An increasingly greater proportion of the population will become disenfranchised not only from economic mobility but also from quality journalism.
In this case it will be a small number of well informed Morlocks inhabiting the Earth's surface while the far more numerous and ignorant Eloi live underground.
