Why is there no vaccine for the common cold or the flu? I understand the "flu shot" exists, but if I understand it correctly it's usually just a weakened strain of the most common variants that year to "train" your body.

Meanwhile we have vaccines for stuff like the Measles or Polio which last for life, yet after all these years no one has figured out how to conquer the common cold, or the flu for good. But these drug companies will sell you ever side effect suppressor under the sun for them at a decent price. Is it really just money motivated to keep these diseases around?

Nah, not only many strains, they also replicate too quickly. Jump host before the immune system could even reactivate its memory. Symptoms after are annoying cleanup of the virus but you have likely sneezed a payload on the next host well before that.

Afaik a different replication strategy. More towards immune evasion. Not avoidance. Rusty on it a bit but should come with a larger "payload". Works well in a naive host (also why they can have nasty effects) but all that makes them "distinct" to the immune system. Guess even more so by recognition of parts of their proteins on infected host cells. T killer and NK reaction (where they might block host cells from displaying antigen) still works best against a virus, no antibody could compare! But lemme quickly look these both up ...

my favorite conspiracy theory is that "medical" companies actually make new strains of flu in labs and release them into the wild via "vaccinating" the clueless underclass. that is why the flu epidemics always start around the same months on yearly basis: couple weeks later after massive ads runs to lure in the underclass. and they do this for profit, to keep all the doctors, hospitals and funds from goverment flowing in.

Flu is caused by a virus, not by being cold you imbecile. It's more common in winter simply because the virus that causes it is more stable in cold, dry air and because your immune system is weaker in cold temps. You can 100% still get the flu during the summer as well. It's just not as common.
