It became the next thing to do. Rather than those who should go to college going, now everybody is expected to so you have people who were below average in high school in college.
The upper end is still fine, but the mass influx has tanked averages.

its mostly racial, negros and latrinos all get free college scholarships in cali if they graduate and its illegal for them to fail out of hs, so you end up with every campus having a majority brown and population most of whom are illiterate.

I'm of average intelligence and have forgotten much of the maths I did take in university. I would say I am the exact picture of average intelligence, I struggled even with intermediate calculus at my sharpest. If someone cannot answer this sheet without errors they have absolutely no business entering higher education for any price. What the fuck man

Because it's remedial, it's made extremely basic so that the participant only engages with simple numbers. Even someone totally unfamiliar with algebraic notation would be able to understand the intent of the question.

How are there adults who can't solve such an easy math question? Aren't multiplication and division taught in elementary school? [math]-18 - \frac{2}{3} = -\frac{56}{3}[/math]

>UC San Diego gave the test to 138 students who needed the remedial lesson
UC San Diego also has 39,000 students.
The alarming thing is that early public schooling is passing children without actually instilling the knowledge into them. THis is because no kids left behind meant failing a student could actually lose your school money, and this is the consequences

Blame states that fucked up their high school curriculum scaling and basically send in teachers with jackshit assistance or help. Even the good schools suck ass at math because math education is one of the harder fields to be a teacher in and in the most optimal settings you have like 17-21 variables (students) to deal with.

That kind of shit is completely pointless unless your job involves that type of math. I suspected this as a student (that anything past basic addition/subtraction/multiplication had no real world use outside of math-based fields) and after a couple decades as an adult, I can confirm it to be true.

I did very well in school but when it came to any sort of useless learning, I memorized it long enough to pass the test and then I promptly forgot it. At no point in my adult life have I ever needed any of that knowledge. I make a little under $200k a year.

God, I hope so. That's the only way I learned. Our grade 1 maths instructor gave us all a box of 100 matches and said, "there's yer goddamn successor function lads". I could do nine. I could do up to about 50, really.

Nah, this level of math is so low, I doubt that explains this unless they are using chatgpt in kindergarten. To me this seems like a complete failure of elementary schools for the bottom X percentile of students (don't know what X would be though, could be 10 could be 50)

How are these retards who will never pay back their loan a sound investment?
If the college gains a reputation for these retards then the value of the degree from that college will also fall affecting the hiring of former graduates.

The effect is uniform across the system due to government subsidization of loans for higher learning. Thus the lost of prestige in one school is generally reflected across the board. So long as businesses continue to highly-value degrees, educational institutions that offer them with have inherent value. As usual, the involvement of a party that necessarily introduces allocative inefficiency (the government) should be heavily scrutinized, as even the most well-intentioned actions can have grave consequences.

>They should be trades.
Trades is super hot an muss depending on where you live. Many still use math in them. Like you could afford to be a total dumbass back in the day and get by when schools juat dumped kids into it or people had no ither option. Now you actually have to think due to changes in the job and upskilling is even more vital to go up because the alternative is fucking up your body by your late 30s.
