This was all on purpose, they sent Cruz to be "embarassed" in the interview so everyone that is against the war to feel good about themselves and get this false feeling of victory "maybe that will convince the government to stop this". While you feel good about being correct and holding the moral high ground they do whatever they want knowing you won't actually do anything that might inconvenience them.
