He did but all he did was basically flip the terrain controlled by both sides of the conflict and pointed out all the logistics issues for both sides.

Clearly the writers have a canon considering you aren't allowed to talk about anything outside of Europe and a small part of the Middle East and North Africa. The devs having visceral reactions about people discussing the new world, aztecs and conquistadors, implies some sort of canonicity, even if that canonicity is based on their politics.
