Gibbon promulgated that Muslims were tolerant and reasonable, intelligent people, from which much could be learnt, it just required some compromise and "friendly correspondence". We know now from first hand contemporary sources and Islamic primary sources (including the Qur'an, the Hadith and Sira), that Gibbon's statements about Islam and Muslims were lies. Jizyah was not the "payment of a moderate tribute", but of extortionate, impoverishing proportions. Islam was cruel, barbaric and evil, they conquered and subdued by force, and the Jizyah being enforced ranged from money, to produce, food and even people, resulting in the rape and enslavement of millions of innocents. Whole civilizations got destroyed. Where are the Byzantines today? We can also see for ourselves first-hand the contributions that "Islam" and Muslims have on our societies, (gang-) rape, filth, laziness, lawlessness, ugliness, degeneracy, crime, extortion/fraud, etc.
