Where I work we get pooled leave that includes the time for us to use for holidays. Being forced to burn a day's leave to take off a fucking half-assed, semi-holiday on a Thursday, just two weeks before an actual holiday, with no idea who is shutting down and who isn't and for literally no meaningful reason is transcendently stupid and, to me, costly. It's not like anyone comes in to do my work for me on that day. At least move the fucking thing to July 5 or something. The origins of this idiocy are premised on having no idea which is the actual date anyway so what the fuck does it even matter?
