You know, my father was in Poland and it was him that asserted I am reading too much into it when we met and the discussion went to this.
It was probably just an offhanded remark and as these things sadly are usually people don't care enough to reflect if they get counter-evidence a few weeks later anyways, it has to be on the spot and instantly.
