Strategy always seems to be a popular choice but I think it's a genre that's just a little too demanding for an audience who may not be able to read.
You could dumb it down quite a bit I guess but that would be disappointing.
I think Bowsers Fury opened my eyes to the potential of Bowser Jr. as a companion character for a Bowser platformer. Could work.
