MIA was basically given the "okay this is normie anime now" kiss of approval across the board. As much as I like it and think it's objectively a10/10 series, I can see why it doesn't feel organic. Crunchyroll gave it a thumbs-up, Toonami gave it a thumbs-up, Hidive gave it a thumbs-up, Seven Seas and publishers in Europe gave it the thumbs-up
Insofar as we can acknowledge that international anime tastes are sort of curated by whoever decides to translate and license stuff in those countries, I can see why it'd feel like the thumb was kinda on-the-scale in favor of Made In Abyss, but I think part of it may be preexisting "I know that guy" among creative types. Having people from Konami and Studio Ghibli and so on already involved in the project (where the anime is concerned, at least) probably helped get it that stamp of approval.
Or maybe I'm overthinking it and it's just a neat series.
