there's nothing particularly strong about your other shapes here, the 2s and 8s are quite useless floaters (2s being marginally better because of the 1s dora) and the manzu shape of 1224 is terrible, only given value by the distant ittsu chance
discarding an aka early in favor of them is just throwing away value for nothing and setting your hand up for terrible end waits/low acceptance. you need to look towards maximizing future acceptance especially early on in the rounds instead of tunneling on whatever you might have in hand now
