Pope Joan is only known about because hundreds of years after she supposedly existed she begins to appear in folk tales and sermons as a moral lesson about trying to obfuscate the truth, and then hundreds of years after that the people who wanted to heavily reform or separate from the Vatican used her "existence" as a part of their attacks. Pope Joan's origin is literary. She's far more of a literary figure than Joan of arc.
Jehanne is as famous for being a saint as she is for being one of the most detailed historical figures of her era. She had multiple trials obsessed with every minute detail of her biography, and they were all recorded and preserved. We know what her banner looked like, we know the village kids she grew up with, what cities she was in and when, what her signature looked like, etc.
St. Jeanne is the goat, so I forgive you, but Makoto's persona doesn't make anymore sense as her than Pope Joan. Even if the motorcycle thing was related to Joan d'Arc in some early brainstorming thing that they later moved on from.
Makoto didn't get a bike in the real world like Tatsuya and Mitsuru, but her persona got one for the same reasons anyway.
