Gacha games frighten me in an odd way. Traditional pay-to-play video games in the west are floundering, laying off hundreds of thousands of industry professionals and releasing poor quality products with ever increasing price tags. It's not a sustainable business despite being a highly desirable product.

Enter the FTP gacha game. Paid for by the excessive purchases of the super-wealthy but freely accessible to all, this is basically the only system in which a high quality product can be viable in a world in which 1% of the population controls 99% of the wealth, with 99% of people living hand-to-mouth without the money to purchase products merely for the sake of enjoyment. We're not quite there yet, but it is a glimpse into that future.

The average person can't afford the phone they even play the game on, simply having the cost of the device rolled into the cost of the utility that they need to exist in society, and they can't afford the games they play it on, with the cost of it's development instead being comped by an oil shiek rolling for 500 dupes of an anime girl's signature weapon.
