The Apophis Comet is supposed to fly in under the geostationary satellite belt.

It has roughly the same orbit as Earth but not exactly the same which is why the paths are crossing in 2029. But as it is roughly the same as Earth it has the same voltage as Earth, as it is in the same trickle-current current from the Sun that gives us auroras.

So they both carry an electric charge that is proportionate to their surface area. When the Apophis Comet gets close to Earth it should light up with the best celestial display of our lifetimes as it attempts to discharge

What happens next is hard to predict. Most likely it will bounce off between the Earth and Moon by static electric repulsion. Then it will have a new orbit and if we are lucky it will stay in the sky orbiting.

Might also just blow up and shower Earth with pebbles. It isn't very big so if it doesn't electrically repel or explode it should push a fairly decent sized hurricane in front of it. And floods.

NASA have it starting its close approach over the sea off Western Scotland then coming across Britain along the line of M6 and M20. Shrug. Might be totally inaccurate and the path won't be predictable anyway. I don't think a strong enough electric force to wreck consumer electronics but I would like to be able to calculate it.

Due date, Friday 13th April 2029. Not that 2036 bollocks people put about. That is after the close pass so could be anything.
