Egypt wasn't fine, Israel tried to pull it into a war with the US by doing falseflag terrorist attacks in its borders. At that juncture it hammered down on security. Later on Egypt was ruled by a US-propped dictator stooge (Mubarak) who wanted to roost instead of rock the boat, so Israel was safe.
Jordan was 'safe' because Israel was busy stirring shit up in Syria and Lebanon, and dealing with the PLO. Israel still attacked Jordan countless times since its existence until the 90's.
