i don't think it's particularly wrong though.
everyone places the value of one thing over another.
i'd place the value of my life beneath my country (generally said, there are always circumstances)
so i don't think it's 'stubbornness' per se, rather it's placing the value of ones life beneath the value of their home and the place that's theirs in the world.
i can understand it if you don't have much life left, but much already lived in such a place.
