A bunch of historically important shit from Apollo missions and the like were just discarded, mothballed and ignored, or sold off.
I was shocked to hear that some of the computer module things from various missions were sold in auctions and are in the hands of private collectors (iirc this video https://youtu.be/g0PIXvjTasI mentions this).
