It seems like Oda is playing the long game, where if Maria is saved, she'll probably see Robin later and affirm that having people to care for and rely on is what she needed all along. Yamato has been the paragon of humility and forgiveness, it makes sense if Oda is going to use her for the Tobiroppo that want redemption to be given a chance at it. I'm fine with it as long as Maria has that chance, because she's shown to truly care about her girls and just needs someone to talk her down. It'll also be nice to see her, Yamato, Sarahebi, Page One and Ulti happy and this silly little fan comic becomes canon.
