I also used to think top players have supercomputers in their head where they calculate each move in hyperspeed, and I used to try and play like that. That was a mistake. Fighting games are much more about already knowing what to do in the situation. Sometimes objectively correct, like if someone jumps at you in SF2, you shoryuken.
Sometimes it's a mixup, so you have to know what moves you and your opponent can choose to do. Like someone knocks you down, you can shoryu, throw, or block.
You know these situations beforehand and just pick a "correct" move quickly (meaning, you don't pick an move that always loses).
