VR is still a thing though, it's constantly improving and there's usually some major hardware release every year or so.
It's slow because it's still a niche market and VERY expensive to get in to, but there has been very noticable improvements.
Pic related is relatively new, its a lot more powerful than most headsets from 5 years ago while also cutting down on form factor significantly.
It's still not affordable though, which is why there hasn't been any big pushes for VR in a while, but they're chipping away at it. In 5-10 years we'll probably see VR resurfacing its head if they focus on reducing costs.

Allegedly Valve has been cooking up something, but they're pussy footing about releasing anything significant about it.
