I typed in "official photograph of Earth taken from outer space". But every official NASA image they've shown me is either CGI or some kind of artistic interpretation. One of them seemed to be drawn with bright pastel water colors. It looked like an 80's Disney movie. One is a deep blue marble. All of these different earths change wildly every 5-10 years.

Imagine you're an astronaut. You spent your entire life training to be an astronaut. Your rocket ship pierces the firmament and you find yourself staring out into the possibly infinite cosmos. You're jaw hangs open in stupified awe, you wonder at the ingenuity and potential of mankind. There are no words. Ohhhfuggg they should've sent a poet.

Thankfully the egghead scientists at ground control had the foresight to provide you with a state of the art camera and plenty of film. You'll be able to document this unbelievable achievement for future generations. It's not hard to imagine that this will be the most important picture ever taken since the invention of photography.

So, what do you take a picture of first? Would you point your camera out into the blackness of deep space and take a picture of a few random hazy low resolution stars surrounded by nothingness? The same thing every single person who ever looked up into the night sky has seen a million times before?

NO! NOBODY WOULD EVER DO THIS. A TODDLER KNOWS WHAT A STAR IS. EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THIS POSITION WOULD TURN AROUND AND POINT THE CAMERA AT EARTH BECAUSE NOBODY HAS EVER FUCKING SEEN IT BEFORE. Now imagine there are a whole bunch of astronauts, from countries all over the world, and they all had this opportunity. Yet not a single one of them ever took a picture of Earth. Apparently they just looked at our useless, faggot planet and said "God I'm bored. nobody even cares about this kind of stuff anyway.. forget it we'll just get an intern to shoop it in later maybe. WOW IS THAT ANOTHER FUZZY DISTANT STAR?!"
