Perhaps I was too impatient. Looking back now, the SoL doesn't seem too bad. Maybe it was just getting a taste of that great almost-climatic wake-up scene that made me want to blast through the rest. Maybe I'll reread this in the future with the note "do not have high expectations".

Yeah, you got me, and they do use prams in the show too. There were some interesting tidbits about foal diets that were true for real horses, which probably got me into that line of thinking.
