Newtype powers can get pretty bullshitty. Maria could manipulate time to heal people, for instance (this would be used by the Angel Halo to attempt to wipe out the Earth Sphere). Unicorn had limited time manipulation as well. Kamille could talk to the dead. The only reason you didn't have FTL time manipulating miracle newtype tech in the OTL is because the Federation did their best to suppress and hide newtypes, and then something the Angel Halo did caused the newer generations to be unable to manifest newtype powers, and newtypes all died out.
