I find most of the popular F/F fandoms to be extremely uninteresting. Some of them I used to be into before getting sick of them like Glee, HP or Wicked, others just never interested me.
When I search for fics like this I look at the top X fandoms by number of results and I think 'do I know exactly how all the popular fics will read?' and if the answer is yes then I remove it. Also obviously I remove the ones that just really do not appeal to me. Then I re-filter and see what new ones show up in the top X and repeat for a while, pic related.
At some point you realize that each new popular fandom is just retreading the same fucking fics that the old fandoms did. So many Glee fics were just copy+paste of Devil Wears Prada fics down to the character dynamics, for example. And every fandom get the exact same popular AUs with the same completely OOC characters. I can only read so many generic coffeeshop/mafia+cop/vampire/etc fics. Skyrim I left in specifically because it has the potential to include something different than the same generic ass F/F fandoms that are still writing the same stories they did back when it was Xena and Janeway/Seven-of-Nine.
It turned out Skyrim fics were different but still shit, but so it goes. Generally I search for longfics (100k+) about rarepairs or just smaller fandoms nowadays, and I read more fandoms that are less popular with women like games than I used to.
