Freemasons didn't exist until the Enlightenment period. Renaissance period had an explosion of pagan knowledge out in the open. Before the Rosicrucians even existed. Ironically it was the Orthodox and Catholic monks preserving it in written form and country bumpkins preserving the oral and cultural practices. Freemasons started as a builders' guild putting all their known pagan symbols on buildings. Then the educated elites hijacked it and turned it into a club for rich people. It is just rich larpers making everyone's lives worse like midevial Christian fundamentalism. "No I need my WWIII so I can magically rule the world somehow!"
