Its role (if im not mistaken) is an IFV that's used in urban warfare and defends tanks via dakka.
Given that tanks aren't really used and urban warfare is mostly clearing small villages, it doesn't really seem like it's got a place in the fight right now.
You can clear treelines just fine with drones, fabs and artillery.
