The first of the Sith Lords who speaks is the bloodlusted Thane. He calls scores of names, more than half of the students attending this meeting. “All those names I’ve called are mine, and you are going to the front. The world of Earmar IV is heavily contested between our forces and those of the Republic. We’ve almost taken the planet, but the Forces of the Republic have fortified that last city, turning it into a great fortress. Warships skirmish over the skies of the planet; therefore, we aren’t able to begin any major troop landings without the Republic’s naval assets pouncing on us. Same for the Republic. You will be the scalpel and the hammer, you will fight and conquer the city, with it the world.”

Finally, after Thane finishes his elongated monologue, your name is called out by Lord Tyus, “Vulfstahn, Murl, Seyra, Ryn Sol and Garllan. You will be procuring me an ancient treasure from the Sith of old. It was currently being transported to Coruscant by a Jedi contingent. You must retrieve this artefact before it reaches the vaults of the Jedi; if the holocron reaches the Jedi Temple, it will be lost to us. Your only goal is to get this holocron, the Jedi are not what interests me in the slightest.”

You look at Yira and Urr’tal sharing disappointed looks that neither of them will be joining you on this quest. Urr’tal is lost in the promise of war on the surface of Earmar IV, ignoring your glance. Yira does not share Urr’tal’s zeal. Her arm wordlessly brushes against yours as Yira sidles closer to you. She is to be under Yvalok’s command and will be part of the party that will assassinate the Republic senator. Leaning over to your friend, you whisper to only her, then you stop, unsure of what you were going to say.

The rest of the Lords speak, describing their missions, at the very end Lord N’we finishes by telling you, “Your time is your own until midday tomorrow, that is when the Glorious Gallows will land. Prepare in the ways you think are best. Dismissed.”

Students break into loud conversations that spring to life the very moment N’we dismisses them. You discuss the tasks assigned to you with both Urr’tal and Yira. The humanoid whale that is Plymor walks over and begins to talk to Urr’tal, discussing their deployment with mirth, joking that they, with their size, will be living shields for the near-humans. Yira wears a mask of confidence, claiming excitement at the chance to put her practice to the test, but you can see right through it.
