Good lighting, appropriate cosmetics, and careful stage production can make a middling fox go from plain Jane to in-character beauty. If a fox cannot master the practice of illusion, then you can safely ignore them. The fox cosplayers are the ones hiding in plain sight, the ones with hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram. But it takes more than just looking like the character. You have to totally subsume it, otherwise it is larping. It's also better to take the name a much more popular fox than spout out your own name. Think of them as surnames. They might cosplay Ahri, for example, to draw upon the popularity of the character itself, or Tamamo for her destructive allure. They need to tap into the kitsune archetype and channel it into themselves, restore that magical link. Most can only reveal the kitsune briefly before mudane reality sets back in. If you can find a fox that can maintain their vixen beauty, congrats, that's a rare find. Artistry is much easier to control, but it's only a stepping stone, an idea, and an idea needs to be realized.
