Reminds me of a scene in one of Chekov's short stories. It is about an old man who plays a violin, iirc. Could be wrong, it has been a while since I read it.
In it a jew gets rebuked or scolded for some reason and runs away and a bunch of stray dogs and and village children chase him down the street as he flees.
