I've mentioned this before in FE threads, but FE should go full girl game and have horse raising mechanics. It wouldn't even be that crazy. Raise your horse well and if your unit rides it into battle, they receive a slight boost (+3 for 2 to 3 stats at most). Course, to balance this out, armor can also been forged and enhanced, giving armored units more benefits and maybe even an ability.
