The game you think is cool or the game your friend plays or the game that's played at your locals.
The same answer it has always been. Trying to learn street fighter because it's 'correct' will just result in getting bored and giving up and might even not teach you anything useful depending on the game you actually wanna play.
However if you're 'wanting to play fighting games' as a fad, or because you want to 'learn the genre' then just grab street fighter so you can play ranked with randoms for an hour and then quit as your kind always does
