I guess what we are "taking" in a sense is destabilization of a historical/current enemy that in turn has tried to destabilize us in the past/present (see commies and their effect on australia in the 1900's and general shit stirring today on the internet). But you are right there isn't a direct financial incentive from sending this stuff to Ukraine however there other benefits in removing our historical enemy.
